You can, of course, share your feelings, but not all your feelings are for everyone. Some of your feelings, you would rather keep to yourself. Instead, sometimes I have to find ways to express my feelings without telling anyone. Here are five ways to do it! I use these all the time and I hope you find this helpful too. So, without further ado, here are the resources – express your emotions! 🙂
The first one I recommend for everyone out there no matter your age is journaling. I always journal like I’m talking to someone about all of my troubles that day and also everything I look forward to. I tell the journal everything. If you have a nosy family, I recommend having a lock or putting your journal in a safe so that your feelings are completely protected. I actually have shown the people I trust most of my journal and let them read it, but that is completely optional and you absolutely have every right to keep your journal to yourself. It’s meant to be private, and that’s ok.
Another thing I do is talk to someone I trust. This is not meant to be venting and raging at them, but it’s meant to be a way to express your feelings. And this is different than just showing your feelings to the world. I recommend talking to a therapist or a professional, because I think everyone could use one! But if you can’t, that’s fine, just talk to a family member you can trust or a close friend.
The next thing that helps me is taking time to just think and to reflect on memories or thoughts I felt today or a long time ago. You can also sort out your thoughts, because sometimes we don’t know what we are feeling. Time spent thinking will help you recognize these thoughts and develop something called mindfulness. It’s basically just being aware of your feelings. It’s not always easy pinpointing the exact thing you are feeling immediately. So take your time. Feel your feelings. Reflect. After this is the perfect time to journal! But of course, you don’t have to.
The fourth thing I hope you guys enjoy is doing an activity to brighten your mood. Before you get too overwhelmed by feelings, you should try going for a walk, doing some yoga, maybe listening to some uplifting music, watching a funny show, or doing a family board game or something! I’m not telling you to push away difficult feelings. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t always be reflecting on those things you are guilty about or always being too serious. It’s ok to be feel negative emotions sometimes, but when it’s constant you could start to become stressed, anxious, guilty and depressed. So don’t be too hard on yourself. Give yourself some time to try and have fun!
This last idea it really important and again, I am recommending it for all ages. This one is simply doing art! Drawing, painting, sketching, you name it! You could draw something specific, like the mask you put on to hide your true feelings, or you could just draw something abstract, maybe using colors you think are what you are feeling. This one shouldn’t take too much explaining, because you guys probably already get what I mean. 🙂
